Lee Kinsella

Lee Kinsella is a writer and visual arts curator. Raised on Yued Country in the Wheatbelt town of Gillingarra, Western Australia, she is Curator of the Cruthers Collection of Women’s Art and Adjunct Senior Lecturer, School of Design, at The University of Western Australia (UWA).

For three decades Kinsella has curated and managed exhibitions at Australian state and national public institutions, including the Art Gallery of Western Australia, The Australian War Memorial and The National Film and Sound Archive (formerly ScreenSound Australia). She has written catalogue essays, articles and contributed to several books on Australia art. In 2016, she curated a survey exhibition of the work of contemporary Western Australian artist, Miriam Stannage. The exhibition was launched at the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery in conjunction with the publication of a monograph on the artist, edited by Kinsella. Her 2021 exhibition, Paper Cut, showcased works on paper in dialogue with community groups who occupied a residency space within the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery. A related symposium, entitled Stories and Solidarity, in which Australian and International artists discussed the power of storytelling, was co-presented by UWA and the Asian Art Museum, San Francisco.

Lee Kinsella continues to relish collaborating with industry peers, including working with artist Amanda Bell on KANANGOOR/Shimmer, and realising Perth Festival exhibitions with UWA colleagues, including Black Sky, Jintulu – People of the Sun, de-centre, re-centre and Gracie Greene – It’s Time!. Kinsella co-curated Greene’s 2026 survey exhibition with Lynley Nargoordah, Director of Mangkaja Arts. In 2027, Kinsella will be presenting the work of Australian women artists in dialogue with those of leading Taiwanese contemporary women artists at the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery, UWA.
